Arts and Crafts
In this 2-hour session participants create different projects using different materials such as paints, paper and clay. In this session we strive to allow participants to use their imagination to make their projects completely their own.
ASDAN programmes and qualifications
Our ‘Towards Independence’ modules are for learners 16+ and are suited to learners with MLD, SLD and PMLD. ‘Towards Independence’ offers formal recognition for small steps in achievements towards larger goals. Learners will work through their workbooks and once completed these will then be internally moderated ready for externally moderation in which they will receive a certificate on completion.
In this 2 hour session participants will be able to bake savoury and sweet pastries to include bread making, baking cakes etc.
This will promote the learning of culinary skills, food hygiene and for participants to become more independent using ovens and kitchen equipment.
Come and join our bingo session along with other participants. The session is tailored for those with hearing and visual impairments. Prizes are given at each session.
Body Pump Fitness
This is 1 hour hour class in which we focus on stretching ligaments and the use of dumbbell weights to strengthen and grow muscle to assist participants in posture and flexibility. It is low-impact and high-intensity to get the heart pumping and the blood flowing. It is a wonderful way to incorporate physical activity and mental wellbeing. Doing exercise is known to release natural endorphins in to the body that make you feel energetic.
This is an opportunity to come together and watch your favourite blockbuster film along with popcorn and a drink provided. A variety of films will be shown including comedy, action, chick-flick, murder mystery and Disney.
In our computer learning session, participants will have the opportunity to learn Microsoft packages such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint. This will help them gain confidence in these areas, so they can transfer them into everyday life.
In this 2 hour session, participants will learn essential cooking skills by creating different nutritional meals each week. They will have to prepare, cook the ingredients and tidy up.
Attendees will be able to take what they have learnt back home and help create some healthy meals in a more independent way. Please note that prior to the session, attendees will need to buy the ingredients.
Creative Lego Building
Our sessions are more than just building with Lego they provide service users with creative stimulus that can be continued into other interests. For example, super heroes, dinosaurs, cars and buildings.
Discussion and Functional Skills
In the first half of this session, participants will be shown a presentation on a topic they have previously picked. Topics have previously included countries and seasonal events.
In the second half, participants will learn about topics such as history, geography, maths, science and english. All work books are in a paper format.
Drama & Costume Design
Participants can develop their life skills to improve their confidence and have fun using the creative arts. The improvisational games are great drama activities and these include shoeboxes or bags to hold different props, items to use as props such as hats or household articles and cards with different locations (e.g. a train, bus, restaurant, etc).

This is a fun activity in which the service users will be able to take turns to sing popular songs into a microphone over pre-recorded backing track as well as socialising with others.
Come and join our hour-long music session with Anthony. The service users get the opportunity to participate by singing, using instruments or dancing. This is a fun, loud and engaging session.
An opportunity for service users to come together and voice what has happened in their week. This can include activities, events such as birthdays, outings and any other topics that service users choose to discuss. This will then be put into a newsletter for all subscribed ARC service users.
Those that choose to come to our Pampering session will be able to choose from having their nails painted, a foot or hand massage or a foot spa. This will give the service users a chance to relax as well as build on their self-confidence. This will be a 1-hour treatment per person.
Come and join our fun quiz where different individuals come together in teams and attempt to answer questions about general knowledge, films, music and sport correctly. During the quiz, you have an opportunity to purchase snacks and a drink and meet new friends. The team that gets the highest number of correct answers to questions will win a prize. This is a very popular activity and is a huge amount of fun.
Reading can be a wonderful and healthy escape from the stress of everyday life. Simply by opening a book, you allow yourself to be invited into a new world that distracts you from daily stress. Reading can even relax your body by lowering your heart rate and easing the tension in your muscles. You can either listen to our skilled facilitators reading from your favourite book or read along with the group.
Explore a range of sculpture session that bring out creative skills. Participants can try their hands at the techniques of moulding using a verity of safe materials under the guidance of the assistant activity coordinator.
Sensory Art is exploring all aspects of artistic methods in a calming, therapeutic environment, with a high level of sensory input. This session allows individuals to express their feelings and emotions through non-conventional means.
Through the use of artistic techniques, we can explore various ways in which to create a sensory experience. The class is not only about craft but more about the process of exploring the senses. The experience is multi-sensory, we will often have calming music playing to create an atmosphere.
We will work with participants to create sugar paste sculptures which are themed and can be self-initiated. We encourage participants to be creative with their work, making sure they do it independently.
Supper Club is where you can cultivate new friendships and deepen old ones. You can meet and dine with others on a regular basis in our Tea Room area either bringing along your own pre-cooked meal or arranging with the ARC to bring along ingredients so you can cook and eat together. This is always a fantastic occasion that guarantees you won’t lose touch with your friends.
Come along and join our fun table tennis (we call it ping pong!) sessions here at the ARC. Have a casual knock-around or take things a little more seriously by keeping score, it’s entirely up to you. Our ping pong sessions are a great way of having fun with your friends or meeting a few new ones too.
The Sensory Room
The Sensory Room is ‘creative as therapeutic’ for service users to come in and relax. A calming space, the room can be accessed through a booking system at any time.
Our fantastic yoga instructor Natalie provides an hour of relaxation and poses over 2 days for our service users to engage in. This is a popular session and has found to be helpful in reducing service users’ anxiety as well as improving their flexibility.
